Lace – Spring and Summer Fashion Trends 2011 | Fabulous After 40

There’s a romantic feel out there as Lace dresses, tops and accessories pop up in stores everywhere.

Lace is always cute and fresh on twenty-somethings, but we find it is trickier to wear  once you hit  that midlife marker.

Lace, especially heavy lace can look and feel nostalgic and, therefore, old lady-ish. You can wear it, but be careful with this one.

You want to be sure that if you go  for lace, you wear a lace outfit that is modern, simple  and clean lined , not big and flouncy like you are part of a bridal party.

Don’t wear cheap stretchy lace.

It’s more modern to wear a lace item of clothing, rather than a regular piece of clothing just trimmed in lace. So, for example, wear an all lace top , rather than a t-shirt with lace trim.

Mix lace with casual pieces to tone it down and make it more modern.

Don’t wear too much jewelry with your lace. The lace should be the focus. You don’t want that heavy weighed down Victorian lace and jewelry look.

Look for lace used in new ways. For example, a  slim fitting, black lace dress shift with a metallic underslip in copper, gold or silver is modern.
