Bumpfire the Garand - M14 Forum

Even if he was bump firing his garand, who am I to judge? I've done it with my '14, just for grins. I kept the rifle in the direction I intended the rounds to fly easy enough. Didn't hit jack squat either, but most people that are bump firing, I suspect, are doing it for the simulated automatic fire, not to see if they can get all 20 in the X ring. A heavy .30-06 is kind of hard to control with one hand, too, and there's no telling where the bullets are going to wind up. My local range has about two miles of woods on the far side of the backstops, but unfortunately, a .30-06 has a range of about two and a half miles. Some fool walked a rapid-fire string up and over the top of the berm, and wound up shooting a hole in an airplane at the airport on the far side of the woods. That caused a lot of stress, and to remain open, the club had to institute some rule changes, including only deliberate, aimed fire at paper targets, and a minimum of 2 seconds between shots on the rifle range. There are full-time range officers there now to enforce the rules, and the club had to build baffles above the firing lines and on top of the earth berms to catch high shots before they go off the property. Insurance for the club has gone up, too, and the membership dues and daily range fees for non-members have doubled. The good ol beltloop is legal in all 50 states....why knock bumpfiring...?....should those that have their OWN $$$ not buy full auto weapons either?....ok....you can blow 16,000.00 on a full auto M16, just don't waste YOUR $$$$ on ammo......non sense. I haven't bumpfired my Garands, but have seen it done on utube...I do bumpfire my AR once in awhile, an usually my MAK90....fun with the 75 rd. drum.....an at 40 to 50 yards can pretty much keep on a 5 gallon bucket an shred it...my son has gottin so good he can bumpfire from his shoulder in short bursts. It reminds me of my Army days, an my hotrod hoodlum friends get a big kick out of it. Rock on brother.
